Within our 30-minute conversation, the pair couldn't have made the doctrine for Diablo 2 Resurrected more clear. It's -- because it needed to be -- the sport players recalled. Blizzard felt that many deviations, even significant quality-of-life features, are a step too far.
"Most players play with the map up while they play with the sport," said Gallerani. "And a request we got in the play -- quite much from those who have never played but are used to playing modern games -- will be like, I just got a pursuit. "We looked into doing something like that," Gallerani continued,"and you are like, Well, it does not does not break anything, correct? It is not making my personality or something like this. And it completely changed the vibe of this game."
While a revamped minimap or icons showing you the place to go may have made for a more contemporary Diablo encounter, it did not feel true to that which Diablo 2 was 20 decades back. And Blizzard's doctrine was that if a characteristic doesn't feel true, it gets canned.
Blizzard would like to preserve Diablo 2 for Resurrected as much as it can, because even when the match is still unchanged, the entire world it will be published into is entirely different. As with World of Warcraft Classic, the wide variety of information available on the world wide web nowadays, and the advent of services like Discord, makes socializing while enjoying a very different experience. Blizzard is counting on that -- the community -- to help ease new players into the encounter.
Diablo 2 Resurrected isn't totally unchanged from Diablo 2, though; it's only that the range of these changes is stiff and limited. Blizzard made apparent improvements into the visuals, shooting the match from 2D sprites into 3D models. But those models are either based on the original game's artwork or molded using the original structure. It looks and moves like Diablo 2, but in a way that makes it a whole lot easier to look at for extended periods of time.
